Description

The German Order of the Teutonic Knights was formed at the end of the 12th century in Acre to help both crusaders and pilgrims alike. At first it was geared towards providing hospital services, but soon their mission widened into military fields. The members were mainly German, which led to the operations concentrating in East Prussia during the crusades. They fought in the Baltic region as a Christian force against what they considered to be pagan Prussian and Baltic tribes. The Order fought and conquered vast areas of land, built castles and set up an order-state, the Monastic State of the Teutonic Knights. They fought expansionistic wars against Lithuania, Poland and the Novgorod Republic from the 13th century to the 16th.
The knights of the order were heavy cavalry, armored heavily they fought with pikes, swords and crossbows. As they were always outnumbered on the battlefields, they used the latest techniques and tactics in order to win battles.
This long hooded cape has the Teutonic black cross sewn over the left shoulder. Heavy cotton with corded tie.
