Description
Modern heart symbol was used as a geometric form as early as 2000 BC in the Indus Valley Civilisation, but at that time it didn’t symbolize the human heart or love. During the Middle Ages from the 14th century onwards, heart symbols like the one on the cover of this book began to appear in drawings, statues and paintings, marking the human heart, but the style and presentation varied. During the 15th century, the heart symbol evolved into this now easily recognizable and common symbol and during the 16th century, the symbol spread to general use throughout Europe.
