Infantry Gambeson

Sleeveless gambeson for historical reenactment 100% cotton Available in sizes S/M or L/XL

Description

The gambeson, or aketon as it is also called, would shield from crushing blows and were typically used underneath mail or plated armour, but also as an extra layer of protection on top of chainmail. This type of combination gave the soldier a good protection against many types of attack. As chainmail was expensive, gambeson was often the infantryman’s only piece of body-armor.
This heavy-duty gambeson was worn by knights and men-at-arms alike. The heavy quilted 100 % cotton body makes it a great addition over a shirt of mail. The lacing up the one side along the torso and also the shoulder gives this garment a fitted look and can be fitted even over a thick layer of other armor, while the high collar adds the needed extra protection. Does not include arms, vest only. Pictured with a shirt from the Robin of Locksley gambeson.
