Iron Age Ring “Himlingoje”

Description

This detailed replica of a Germanic serpent ring from Scandinavian Iron Age has been made after a famous find from a women’s grave in Himlingøje in Denmark. The original ring was made of pure gold and it is believed to have once belonged to a wealthy Germanic woman. The woman was aged approximately 40 to 50 and must have belonged to Iron Age aristocracy. The ring dates to the 3rd century CE and is now in the possession of the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen.

Similar rings with the representation of serpents or dragons were very popular with the Northern Germanic people from the start of Iron Age all the way to the end of Early Middle Ages and Viking Era. They have been found from several sites in Norway and Denmark.

This Iron Age ring doesn’t form a solid ring. The open style allows the Himlingøje ring size to be adjusted slightly in size up and down. Sizes can be adapted to any ring diameter from 17 to 21 mm. This northern Germanic ring is plated with real silver, and it can be worn as a perfect accessory for historical reenactment, LARP costumes or as everyday jewelry.
