Roman Long Sleeved Red Tunic

Description

This long-sleeved tunic is suitable for both Roman, early medieval and high medieval characters and historical reenactments. This kind of basic tunic was common clothing during the Roman period, both for civilians and soldiers, and this same basic clothing remained in use until well into the Middle Ages throughout Europe.

Red was a common color already among Spartan soldiers. Red was the most warlike color possible, the signature color of Mars, the god of war. The enemy also did not get to see the blood of the Spartan soldiers in the battle, because red cloth masked the wounds. The same idea and color was later copied to the Roman legions, and the Roman legions very likely marched on mostly draped in red.
