You can think of Luhkka as a northern Scandinavian version of the poncho. It’s a long, cloak-like outer garment designed to provide warmth and protection from the harsh Arctic climate. Luhkka was and is still used by both men and women.
This historical garment is still actively used nowadays as a traditional Sami garment worn by the indigenous Sami people of northern Scandinavia, and can be seen worn on for example reindeer herders riding on their snowmobiles in harsh winter conditions.
- Warmth: One of the primary functions of the Luhkka is to provide warmth in cold and harsh climates. Its long cloak-like design, made from felted wool, offers excellent insulation against low temperatures, wind and snow, keeping the wearer cozy and comfortable.

- Ease of Movement: Despite its long and flowing design, the Luhkka does not impede movement. It allows the wearer to move freely, whether walking, skiing, hiking or performing daily tasks.
- Water Resistance: The natural qualities of felted sheep wool mean that this luhkka offers water resistance, helping to repel moisture and keep the wearer dry in snowy or wet conditions.

Vaate on lämmin ja mukava päällä.

Todella kevyt, lämmin ja syksyn kovilta tuulilta suojaava vaate. Reunojen koristepistot purin pois ja vaihdoin toisenlaisiin koristeompeleisiin. Ostin tämän sekä viikinkileikkeihini, mutta ennenkaikkea arkipäivän helpoksi yläosaksi ulkona työskennellessä.

Hyväntuntuinen materiaali, ja istuu hyvin myös isokokoisemmillekin. Luhka on myös tarpeeksi pitkä, että lämmittää kylmälläkin säällä.
Ei kukaan (verified owner) –
Luhka on pehmeä, hyvän tuntuinen sekä kevyt. Kestää kovempaakin sadetta hetken verran ilman läpi tuloa. Pään aukko hieman ahdas lasien ja paksun ponnari tukan kanssa mutta muuten hyvin toimiva ja olisi turhan löysä jos ei tuota henkilökohtaista ongelmaa olisi.
Vihreän väri on kuulemma smaragtiin päin eli kirkkaampi kuin tavallinen vihreä, ainakin tutun väreistä tarkan mielestä.
Huppu toimii hyvin lämmikkeenä kun ei vedä kokonaan eteen ja kokonaan eteen vedettynä suojaa kasvot kokonaan sateelta eli tilaa riittää ja asettuu moneen kohtaan päätä ilman valumista mihinkään suuntaan.
