Description

The Mk 2 hand grenade was developed in America during the First World War in 1918. Small quantities were used at the end of the First World War, but in active use it was both in World War II and later, for example, in the Vietnam War. Manufacturing was discontinued in 1969.

This fragmentation hand grenade exploded when the user removed the safety pin while still holding the handle against the grenade. When the grenade was thrown, the handle was released from the grenade and a striker with a spring struck the lighter. Once the Mk 2 was thus tuned, the explosive inside exploded after a delay time of about 4-5 seconds, fragmenting the grooved iron shell, creating many small fast-flying fragments.
