Description
This pendant set depicts a “Guldgubber”, one to two centimeter tall figures made of sheet gold and sometimes silver. The Guldgubber appear exclusively in Scandinavia and have been very common during the Germanic Iron Age with over 3000 finds in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
Guldgubber were made of small, often extremely thin pieces of gold sheet and often show a pair of lovers embracing or a kissing couple. Depictions of both opposite sex and same-sex couples have been found.
The interpretations of the meaning behind these small amulets vary all the way from a fertility motif to lovers’ gifts and to an image of a pair of gods. It has also been debated that they could have been a sendoff-gift after wealthy weddings, depicting the newly-wed couple.
What makes this guldgubber pendant unique is its divisibility. The pendant set consists of two charms that, when connected, form a complete disc. The pendants are crafted from high-quality bronze, with one half coated in silver. This jewelry set makes an excellent gift for couples, and it is a perfect accessory for historical reenactment, LARP costume or as everyday jewelry.
