Description
The Wild Hunt is a mythical event or supernatural phenomenon that can be found in many European folktales and illustrations. The Wild Hunt typically consists of a leader of the hunt as well as dogs or spectral hounds. Often, the hunt is led by a mythical figure of the time, such as the Anglo-Saxon Woden, the Norse Odin, or the Celtic Arawn. In some versions the leader of the Wild Hunt has also been said to be the angel Gabriel or alternatively the devil himself.
According to most of the stories if one happened to witness the Wild Hunt, it will bring particularly bad luck, war, and/or death to the observer or their community. On the other hand the Wild Hunt has also been portrayed as an annual event occurring during the strongest autumn thunderstorm or around Halloween, when the souls of the dead were collected from the earth and transported to the underworld.
An exact and uniform consensus on the interpretation of the Wild Hunt is unlikely, but even today it can be seen as a symbol of the chaotic and untamed forces of nature. The Wild Hunt has also inspired literature, comics, movies, and games, for example The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The design of this pendant is inspired by an illustration found in the early medieval Book of Kells. The illustration depicts Cŵn Annwn, the Celtic hounds of the underworld. Cwn Annwn were ghostly dogs that appeared at night and foretold death, and they were led by the king of the underworld, Arawn. These hounds were sent from Annwn (the underworld) to search for bodies and human souls. In this pendant, the three hounds chase each other, forming a triskele or triple spiral with their bodies. The triskele is said to symbolize life, death, and rebirth among the Celts.
This pendant is made of zamak, and it comes with a cord. It is available in either broze or silver color.
